Meet The Host:
Johnathan O’Dell is much more than a small game biologist. He is also a writer, hunter and cook. He is well known for his ability to both harvest wild game and develop mouthwatering recipes that highlight the uniqueness of his ingredients.
Johnathan has competed in many a cookout, including the annual World Champion Squirrel Cookoff. He also helped AZ BHA defend its 2018 BHA Wild Game Cookoff trophy alongside fellow chef and BHA board member Michael Cravens. They brought home the trophy with a meal that included cactus buds and rattlesnake served up to a panel of judges including Ryan Callahan and Chef Eduardo Garcia.
He has passed along his knowledge to many hunters over the years, such as how to quickly process quail or his mentorship efforts with AZGFD. From quail cleaning tips to locating Antelope Jackrabbit, he is a tremendous resource for new and seasoned hunters alike.
